Six lights or eight.

The two sizes share the vine and the bowl but carry their candles differently: single candles stepping up and down on the 6-light, paired candles at the outer arms on the 8-light.

In Candlelight
Every leaf, turned toward the light.

Warm candlelight catches the raised edges of each leaf, so the gold brass glows like foliage in late sun.

The Story

Named for the tendril.

Picture the last hour of a long afternoon: tea on the low table, the shelves turning amber, and above it all a brass vine that seems to have grown down from the ceiling on its own.

vrilleFrench for the tendril a climbing plant sends out to hold on.

Vrilette takes its sound from that word, and its shape from the same idea: one vine twisting down from the canopy, leaves opening along the way, and arms curling outward like new growth reaching into the room.

It belongs with the rooms in these pictures, French Country at heart: dark wood, patterned walls, books and a table people actually sit at.

Where It Hangs

Rooms that have a table.

Finding your fit: choose the 6-light for a four to six seat table or a living room up to about 320 sq ft, and the 8-light for a six to eight seat table or a larger room. Over a table, hang the bottom 30 to 36 inches above the top.

Mounting Height

How high to hang it.

The canopy fixes to the ceiling and the 50 cm / 19.7" chain sets the drop on site. Measure from the bottom of the leaf bowl, the lowest point of the lamp.

30–36 inabove the table8 ft ceiling7 ft minfloor to bowl10 ft ceiling7 ft minclear headroom10 ft ceiling

Over a dining table: hang the bottom of the bowl 30–36 in / 76–91 cm above the tabletop. On an 8 ft ceiling the chain stays short.

In a living room: keep at least 7 ft / 213 cm clear below the bowl where people walk, and let the chain take up the extra height.

In an entry hall: the 8-light suits a taller entry. Keep 7 ft / 213 cm of headroom under the bowl.

Ceiling height

Counting the body alone, a walk-through room needs about 9 ft for the 6-light and 9 ft 3 in for the 8-light. On an 8 ft ceiling, hang it over a table.

Care

Keeping the leaves bright.

i

Switch off at the wall and let the bulbs cool before you touch the lamp.

ii

Dust the leaves with a soft, dry brush or microfiber cloth. The raised edges and leaf ribs collect dust first.

iii

For marks, use a lightly damp cloth, then dry. Avoid polish, ammonia and abrasive cleaners on the brass.

Questions

Before the vine goes up.

Which size should I choose?

The 6-light (73 cm / 28.7") suits rooms of about 15–30 m² / 160–320 sq ft or a four to six seat table. The 8-light (88 cm / 34.6") suits larger rooms and six to eight seat tables.

Can I adjust the hanging height?

Yes. The body hangs from 50 cm / 19.7" of adjustable chain below the canopy, so the drop can be set during installation.

What bulbs does it take?

It takes E14 or E12 candelabra bulbs, whichever base you choose, six or eight depending on the size. Bulbs are not included; a 3000K warm white suits the brass best.

Will it work with an 8 ft ceiling?

Over a dining table, yes: shorten the chain so the bottom sits 30–36" above the tabletop. In walk-through areas, a ceiling of about 9 ft or higher works better.

How is it installed?

It is hardwired to a ceiling junction box. We recommend having a licensed electrician install it.

How do I clean the brass leaves?

Switch it off and let it cool, then dust with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Avoid polish and abrasive cleaners.

Four hands-on stages

From a bar of raw brass to the frame of your lamp, each stage is done by a person at a machine or a bench.

A craftsman cutting brass sheet into shapes at the bench

Brass

Mostly copper, strengthened with zinc. That simple mix gives brass its warm golden color, its weight and its strength, and it is the metal we build our lamp bodies from.

Look closer at the metal

Brass rewards a close look. Tap a point to see what solid metal does that coated metal cannot.

You feel it the moment you lift it

Brass is one of the densest metals used in lighting. That weight is why a brass lamp hangs steady and feels solid in your hands.

Gold all the way through

No rust underneath

Brass does not rust. Plated iron rusts once the coating wears thin.

Detail that stays sharp

Machined brass keeps crisp lines; cast alloys tend to look soft.
