Glass Disc Wall Lamp

Tisanne, a cup of amber light.

The Tisanne Tiered Glass Disc Wall Lamp layers 13 rippled glass discs in a deep tea tone across three tiers, set on an aged gold frame. Light from within passes through the overlapping discs, so the wall glows a warm, smoky amber with bright highlights along each ripple.

iiThirteen Discs

Three tiers, one soft fan.

Thirteen discs

Wide at the top and narrowing toward the base, the tiers form a rounded fan on the wall.

The top tier

The widest row, spreading the glow across the wall above.

The middle tier

Overlaps the top row, so the light passes through two layers of glass.

The bottom tier

The narrowest row, finishing the fan with a soft glow below.

Warm, smoky, steeped in amber.

Where the discs overlap the tea tone deepens; where they open up, every ripple catches a bright, liquid highlight.

iiiLit and Unlit

Steeped by day, glowing by night.

Switch between the two. Unlit, the discs read as a smoky tea-toned sculpture; lit, three G9 bulbs turn every tier warm amber.

Each disc carries a liquid ripple that catches bright highlights.

  • 03
    Overlapping layers

Where discs overlap, the colour deepens and the glow softens.

Two glows, one calm room.

Hung in a pair above a bed or either side of a mirror, Tisanne gives a dark wall a warm, layered glow.

vInstallation Height

Where to hang it.

Choose a room to see the suggested mounting height, measured from the finished floor to the centre of the lamp. These are guide heights; adjust a little for your ceiling height and furniture.

Hallway & Living Room

165cm65"to the centre of the lamp

In a hallway or living room, centre Tisanne about 160–165 cm / 63–65" from the floor. At eye level the tiers read as a lit sculpture, while the bulbs sit behind the glass rather than in your line of sight.

  • Along a hallway, space lamps about 2.4–3 m / 8–10 ft apart for an even rhythm of light.
  • Above a console, leave at least 30 cm / 12" between the tabletop and the bottom tier.
  • At 15 cm / 5.9" deep, keep it clear of door swings and busy corners.
00"5020"10039"15059"20079"cm / in140 cm55"80 cm31"

Bedside

140cm55"to the centre of the lamp

Beside the bed, centre it about 135–140 cm / 53–55" from the floor, roughly 75–80 cm / 30–31" above the nightstand. The glow then falls across the pillow for reading without shining into your eyes when you sit up.

  • Centre each lamp over its nightstand, not the bed edge.
  • Fit one on each side at the same height for a balanced headboard wall.
  • Measure from the finished floor, after carpet or flooring is down.

Pair by a Mirror

160cm63"to the centre of each lamp

Either side of a mirror, hang the pair at the same height, centred about 160 cm / 63" from the floor and roughly 90–100 cm / 36–40" apart. Light from both sides is even across the face, with no shadow cast by a single source.

  • Leave at least 5 cm / 2" of open wall between the mirror frame and each lamp.
  • Mark both junction box positions with a level before cutting.
  • The lamp is 30.5 cm / 12" wide, so allow for its full width on each side.

Finding your fit

At 30.5 cm (12") wide and 15 cm (5.9") deep, Tisanne suits a bedside wall, a hallway, either side of a mirror or a reading corner. Hang it at eye level and leave a little open wall around it so the amber glow can spread.

viiCare & Cleaning

Keep the glass glowing.

A little care every few weeks keeps the ripples bright and the amber glow clear.

  • Let it cool

Switch the lamp off and let the bulbs and glass cool first.

  • Dust gently

Wipe each disc with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

  • For marks

Use a cloth just damp with water, then dry the glass at once.

  • Skip harsh cleaners

Avoid abrasive pads and chemical cleaners on the glass and aged gold finish.

ixQuestions

Before you hang it.

Are bulbs included, and which bulbs should I use?

Bulbs are not included. Tisanne takes three G9 bi-pin bulbs; a 3000K warm white bulb brings out the amber in the tea-toned glass, and G9 LEDs run cooler than halogen, which makes the glass more comfortable to handle when cleaning.

How high should I mount it?

As a guide, centre it about 160–165 cm / 63–65" from the floor in a hallway or living room, and about 135–140 cm / 53–55" beside a bed. Measure from the finished floor to the centre of the lamp, and keep a pair at exactly the same height.

How is it installed, and do I need an electrician?

Tisanne is hardwired to a standard wall junction box, so there is no plug or cord. We recommend having a licensed electrician make the connection and following your local electrical codes.

How far does it project from the wall?

It projects 15 cm / 5.9" from the wall and measures 30.5 cm / 12" wide by 29.2 cm / 11.5" tall. The slim depth suits hallways and beside doorways, but keep it clear of door swings and walkways where it could be knocked.

How are the glass discs held in place?

Each of the 13 rippled discs hangs on its own pin on the frame arms, arranged in three tiers. After mounting, check that every disc is seated securely on its pin before you switch on the power.

What does the glass look like lit and unlit?

By day the deep tea glass reads as a smoky brown sculpture on the wall. Lit, the light passes through the overlapping tiers and the discs glow warm amber, with the ripples casting soft highlights.

How much wall space should I allow around it?

Allow at least 15 cm / 6" of open wall around the lamp so the glow can spread across the surface. Beside a mirror, leave about 5 cm / 2" between the frame and each lamp, and roughly 90–100 cm / 36–40" between the two lamps centre to centre.

How do I clean the glass discs and frame?

Switch the lamp off and let the bulbs and glass cool, then wipe each disc with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth while supporting it with your other hand. For marks, use a cloth lightly dampened with water and dry at once; avoid abrasive pads and chemical cleaners on the glass and the aged gold frame.

Hand-blown art glass

Every shade on this lamp began as glass at 2,000°F.

Before it ever held light, the glass on your lamp was melted, blown and shaped by hand in a working glass studio. Here is how it is made, and why it glows the way it does.

Hand-blown art glass pieces and glass rods laid out on a studio table
2,000°F

Furnace heat needed before the glass is soft enough to shape.

One at a time

Each piece is gathered, blown and finished by a maker’s hands.

Color in the glass

Color is fused in while molten, never painted onto the surface.

The process

From furnace to fixture, in four stages.

Glowing molten glass inside the mouth of a glass furnace Glassblower turning a gather of molten glass beside the furnace Gloved hands shaping colored art glass while it is still hot Finished glass pieces cooling on racks inside an annealing oven

Why hand-blown, and not pressed.

Depth, not a flat wash

Pressed glass is stamped in a mold: uniform, thin and flat once the light is behind it. Hand-blown glass varies slightly in thickness, and that variation gives the glow its depth.

Color through the whole wall

Color goes into the melt rather than onto the surface, so it runs the full thickness of the glass. It cannot chip, fade or wear off at the rim.

Worth the extra time

It costs more and takes longer to make. It also looks like nothing else in the room.

Signs of the hand, not flaws.

  • Tiny bubblesSmall seeds of air are trapped as the glass is gathered and turned.
  • Slight shifts in shadeColor can deepen where the glass is thicker and soften where it thins.
  • Gentle ripplesFaint waves in the surface show where the glass was shaped by hand.

Because each piece is made by hand, the glass on your lamp will differ slightly from the photos. No two are exactly alike.
