Ilvesse Amethyst Glass Petal Rectangular Chandelier

Tier on tier of amethyst glass, stepping in like a terrace

The Ilvesse Amethyst Glass Petal Rectangular Chandelier layers rows of curved, hand-formed amethyst glass petals beneath a long metal frame, each tier stepping inward toward the base.

The textured glass holds a wine-dark tone in daylight and glows deep plum when lit. Its long, low shape follows a dining table or kitchen island from end to end.

Day and night

Wine-dark by day, plum when lit

Unlit amethyst glass chandelier showing wine-dark petals in natural daylight

Switched off

The textured glass reads wine-dark, like red wine held up to a window.

Off, it is a color. On, it is a glow.

Amethyst glass changes with the light behind it, so the same petals give the room two different moods from morning to evening.

Switched on

Light passes through every petal and the whole cascade turns an even, deep plum.

How Ilvesse comes together

  1. 1
CanopyCovers the junction box and anchors the fixture to the ceiling.
  2. 2
Chain and cablesA center chain with suspension cables to each end, adjustable up to 39.4" from ceiling to frame.
  3. 3
Long frameA 48" rectangular frame in gold or nickel that carries every petal.
  4. 4
Candelabra socketsE12 / E14 sockets sit inside the frame, hidden behind the glass.
  5. 5
Stepped petal tiersEach tier is narrower than the one above, so the glass tapers toward the base.

The petal

Formed by hand, one petal at a time

Every petal is hand-formed from textured amethyst glass and curved so its tip flares outward. No two match exactly in curve or depth of color, and those small differences are what give the tiers their movement.

The rippled surface softens the bulbs behind it, so you see a glow rather than bright points of light.

Where it hangs

Made for the long table

A rectangular chandelier follows the shape of what sits beneath it. Ilvesse lights a dining table or island from end to end, where a round fixture would leave the ends in shadow.

Dining table. Hang the bottom of the fixture 30–36" (76–91 cm) above the tabletop.

Kitchen island. Keep the same 30–36" above the counter, so it clears eye level when standing.

Open room. With nothing beneath it, keep at least 7 ft (213 cm) from floor to fixture; best with 10 ft ceilings.

Sizing the table

For the 48" length, a table 72–96" long works best, typically seating six to eight. Leave about 12" or more clear at each end.

  • KitchenOver an island 6 ft or longer.
  • Living roomAbove a long coffee table grouping under a high ceiling.

Choose your finish

Gold or nickel, the same amethyst glass

The frame and chain come in two finishes. Match them to the metals already in the room.

Installation

Hardwired, in five steps

Ilvesse connects to a ceiling junction box. We recommend a licensed electrician for the wiring.

  1. 1Power offSwitch off the circuit at the breaker, not only at the wall switch.
  2. 2Fix the bracketSecure the mounting bracket to a junction box rated for the fixture's weight.
  3. 3Set the dropAdjust the chain and cables to your height before final wiring, keeping the long frame level.
  4. 4ConnectJoin the supply and fixture wires and the ground, then close the canopy.
  5. 5Add bulbsFit E12 / E14 candelabra bulbs (not included). A 3000K warm white suits the glass.

Care

Keeping the glass clear

A few minutes every few weeks keeps every petal bright.

Power off firstSwitch off and let the bulbs cool fully before touching any petal.
Dust gentlyUse a soft microfiber cloth or a feather duster, working from the top tier down.
Wipe, don't sprayFor marks, mist glass cleaner onto a cloth rather than the fixture, then dry each petal. Avoid abrasive pads.

Questions

Before you choose Ilvesse

What size table does it suit?

Tables 72–96" long and at least 36" wide, usually seating six to eight. Center it and leave about 12" or more clear at each end.

How high should it hang?

Set the bottom of the fixture 30–36" (76–91 cm) above the table or island. The chain and cables adjust up to 39.4" from ceiling to frame.

What color is the glass in real life?

Wine-dark in daylight and an even plum when lit. Each petal is hand-formed, so expect slight variation in tone from petal to petal.

Which bulbs should I buy?

E12 / E14 candelabra bulbs, purchased separately as they are not included. LED bulbs in 3000K warm white bring out the plum and run cool.

Can I install it myself?

It is hardwired, so we recommend a licensed electrician. Level the long frame with the cables before closing the canopy.

Gold or nickel?

Gold suits brass hardware and warm wood; nickel suits white, gray and stainless rooms. The amethyst glass is the same on both.

Pairs Well With

Complete
the look

A room reads as designed when the pieces share a finish. Start here.

Made to order

Pick a shape and a color, and we will build it into the chandelier you need.

Start with one of our four glass shapes, choose from the colors we make it in, then send us your choice. We blow the shades to order and fit them to your fixture.

Your selection

Each shade is blown, shaped and colored by hand, then matched against our color standard before it leaves the workshop. Shades on screen are a guide; the glass itself will vary slightly.

Found your shape and color? Tell us and we will build it.

Email the shape and color you have chosen, along with the fixture and the number of shades you need. We will get back to you to confirm the details.

Hand-blown art glass

Every shade on this chandelier began as glass at 2,000°F.

Before it ever held light, the glass on your chandelier was melted, blown and shaped by hand in a working glass studio. Here is how it is made, and why it glows the way it does.

Hand-blown art glass pieces and glass rods laid out on a studio table
2,000°F

Furnace heat needed before the glass is soft enough to shape.

One at a time

Each piece is gathered, blown and finished by a maker’s hands.

Color in the glass

Color is fused in while molten, never painted onto the surface.

The process

From furnace to fixture, in four stages.

Why hand-blown, and not pressed.

Depth, not a flat wash

Pressed glass is stamped in a mold: uniform, thin and flat once the light is behind it. Hand-blown glass varies slightly in thickness, and that variation gives the glow its depth.

Color through the whole wall

Color goes into the melt rather than onto the surface, so it runs the full thickness of the glass. It cannot chip, fade or wear off at the rim.

Worth the extra time

It costs more and takes longer to make. It also looks like nothing else in the room.

Signs of the hand, not flaws.

  • Tiny bubblesSmall seeds of air are trapped as the glass is gathered and turned.
  • Slight shifts in shadeColor can deepen where the glass is thicker and soften where it thins.
  • Gentle ripplesFaint waves in the surface show where the glass was shaped by hand.

Because each piece is made by hand, the glass on your chandelier will differ slightly from the photos. No two are exactly alike.
