Gethin floor lamp description preview

Three alabaster columns, lit from the inside

The Gethin Triple Column Alabaster Floor Lamp stands three alabaster tubes at three different heights on a stepped metal base, the tallest reaching just over five feet. Each tube is lit along its full length from within, so the stone's veining runs as amber and brown movement up the column instead of collecting in one bright spot.

  • 61" tall155 cm, just over five feet
  • 7.9" wide20 cm footprint, narrower than a dinner plate

The three columns sit close together, so a fixture this tall can stand in a corner or beside a sofa without eating floor space. A foot switch on the cord turns it on without reaching behind the base, and the integrated 3000K LED needs no bulbs. Choose a gold or black base; both use the same alabaster columns.

Gold base or black base

Same three alabaster columns, two very different moods. Flip the switch to compare.

Gold

A warm metal tone that picks up the amber in the stone. It sits naturally with walnut, cream upholstery and traditional or transitional rooms.

Black

A dark, graphic base that lets the lit columns do all the talking. It suits oak, gray textiles and contemporary rooms.

The base is stepped, so the three columns start at different heights and the whole piece reads as one sculpture rather than three separate lamps.

Real alabaster, not printed marble

Plenty of "alabaster" lamps at this height are resin or acrylic with a marble pattern printed on. These columns are cut from natural stone, and it shows most when the light is on.

Look for repeats

A printed or molded look-alike repeats the same veins every few inches, and every unit looks the same. Alabaster does not repeat.

Watch it light up

Stone turns warm amber and brown when lit; printed acrylic usually stays flat gray-white.

Touch it

Alabaster feels cool and solid. Resin and acrylic feel light and warm to the hand.

Think long term

Acrylic near a heat source can yellow over the years. Stone keeps its color.

Lit and unlit, the same column: with the LED off the stone reads as a pale, softly patterned surface; switched on, the veins warm up and the whole piece changes character.

From quarried block to lit column

Alabaster has to be cut, cored and polished before it glows evenly, and the stone itself decides how the finished column looks.

Five feet tall, a dinner plate wide

Height is the easy part to picture; floor space is the part people get wrong. Both drawings are to scale.

3 columns

Set at three heights on one stepped base, so it works from every angle.

06

Where it goes in the room

A narrow column lights the spots a table lamp cannot reach. The plan is drawn to scale against a standard 84 in sofa.

  • Beside the sofa arm. Leave 6 to 12 in of clearance so the glow spreads without crowding the seat.
  • In an empty corner. Keep it 4 to 6 in off both walls; light bouncing off the corner makes the room feel wider.
  • Next to a chair. Set it slightly behind the chair so light falls over your shoulder instead of into your eyes.
  • Plan the cord run. Route the cord along the baseboard and put the foot switch where your foot naturally rests.

Switched with your foot

The switch sits on the cord where your foot lands, so you never have to reach behind the base or feel for a socket in the dark.

Where it earns its corner

A tall, narrow light works where a table lamp has no surface to sit on: behind a sofa arm, in an empty corner, beside a bed or at the end of a hallway.

Questions before you buy

Is the stone real?

Yes. The columns are natural alabaster, so the veining differs from one piece to the next.

Will mine look like the photos?

The shape and tone match, but the veining will be its own; that variation is the point of natural stone.

Do I need bulbs?

No. The LED is built in and runs at 3000K warm white.

Is it bright enough to read by?

It is an ambient light that washes a corner; add a task lamp for close work.

How much floor space does it take?

Under 8 in across, narrower than a dinner plate.

How do I turn it on?

With the foot switch on the cord, so you never reach behind the base.

Which plug does it come with?

Choose US, UK, AU or EU at checkout.

Gold base or black base?

Gold picks up the amber in the stone; black is more graphic and recedes into a modern room.

Caring for stone

Alabaster is softer than granite or marble and does not like acid, so treat it more like a piece of furniture than a countertop.

Before you start

  • Switch off with the foot switch and unplug the lamp.
  • Let the columns cool for a few minutes.
  • Work with a dry, lint-free cloth first.

Alabaster columns

  • Dust with a soft dry cloth or a clean makeup brush.
  • For marks, use a cloth barely dampened with plain water, then dry at once.
  • Never leave water standing on the stone.

Metal base

  • Wipe with a soft dry cloth.
  • Lift dust from the steps with a dry brush.
  • Skip metal polish; it can mark the finish.

Avoid

Vinegar, lemon or any acidic cleaner Abrasive pads and scouring powder Soaking the stone or spraying near the cord

02

Craftsmanship

Alabaster is quarried, not made —
every block arrives with its own veining.

Real Alabaster, Cut Not Cast

Most fixtures sold as alabaster are resin or frosted acrylic cast to imitate it — the veining is printed into the mould, and every unit comes out identical.

We cut ours from quarried blocks. The stone is sawn, hollowed, shaped and polished as itself, and the pattern you see is the geology of that particular piece.

That decision changes everything downstream.

NATURAL ORIGIN

The Stone's Own Light

The surface is the Alabaster itself.

No wax, no lacquer, no sealing coat. Many stone-look shades rely on a film to produce the glow — ours does not, so the warmth comes from the material rather than from something applied over it.

01

Select

Every block is held against a lamp; only stone that passes light evenly goes forward.

02

Cut

Sawn down to rough blanks, sized to the piece.

03

Sand

Wet-sanded through successive grits until the surface runs smooth to the touch.

04

Wash

Rinsed and dried, so no grit is left sitting in the veining.
