Cygnelle brass swan crystal wall sconce lit on a cream damask wall beside a gilt-framed portrait, above a walnut side table

Brass Swan Wall Sconce · K-9 Crystal

Cygnelle, a brass swan carrying the light.

The Cygnelle Brass Swan Crystal Wall Sconce has a winged swan, cast in solid brass, rising from a carved floral backplate. In its beak it holds a frosted cut-glass shade on a short chain.

K-9 crystal prisms and rose-tinted beads hang from a scalloped brass ring, so the light glows softly through the etched glass and catches on every drop. It makes a statement in a bedroom, on a stair landing or in an entry hall.

Installation

Mounting Hardwired to a wall junction box. A licensed electrician is recommended.
Location Indoor, dry locations only
Orientation Cast in one direction: the swan faces left as you look at the wall

Measure firstThe sconce reaches 11.8"30 cm out from the wall, so leave clear space beside doors and along narrow hallways.

Hanging heightMost sconces sit 60–66"152–168 cm from the floor to center. See the pairing guide below.

The swan

Cast in brass, feather by feather.

Most crystal sconces hide their hardware. On Cygnelle, the hardware is the sculpture.

  1. 01

    The head

The swan holds the shade on a short chain in its beak, so the glass hangs free and the head stays the focal point.

  2. 02

    The wings

Deep-cut feathers sweep back from the neck. Light from the shade below picks out every ridge.

  3. 03

    The backplate

A round 6.3" backplate carved with acanthus leaves covers a standard junction box and anchors the swan to the wall.

Solid cast brass, not plated steel. It gives Cygnelle real heft, crisp sculpted edges and a warm golden tone that paint can't copy.

The shade

Frosted glass, K-9 crystal, a blush of rose.

The light starts soft and ends in sparkle.

i

Frosted cut glass

An egg-shaped shade, frosted and cut with a lattice and starburst. It hides the bulb and turns it into an even, candle-soft glow.

ii

K-9 crystal prisms

Faceted K-9 crystal drops hang on bead chains around the shade and scatter small points of light across the wall.

iii

Rose and black beads

Rose-tinted and black beads in gold filigree caps loop from the ring to the stem. It's a jewelry-box detail you notice up close.

  1. The bulb

One E12 candelabra bulb sits inside the glass egg, out of sight.

  2. Frosted glass

The frosting spreads the light evenly, so there's no hot spot or glare.

  3. Cut lines

The lattice and starburst cuts glow brighter than the frosted glass around them.

  4. K-9 prisms

The crystal drops catch the glow and throw warm sparkle onto the wall.

In pairs

Hang two, keep the balance.

Most Cygnelle sconces go up in pairs, one either side of a bed, a mirror or a fireplace.

Cast in one direction. In profile the swan faces left. Seen from the front, its wings open evenly to both sides, so two sconces hung the same way still look balanced.

  • Beside a bed

    Above the nightstand

Center each sconce about 24–30" above the top of the mattress and a few inches outside the headboard.

  • Around a mirror

    Light on your face

Hang them 60–66" from the floor to center, 4–6" outside the frame, so light falls on you rather than the glass.

  • Down a hallway

    An even run of light

Keep the same 60–66" height and space sconces roughly 8–10 ft apart along the wall.

These are common guidelines. Your electrician will confirm what works for your wall and junction boxes.

  • Switched offThe swan reads as gilded wall sculpture, and the frosted egg stays a soft, milky white.

Good to know

  • Mount it 60–66" above the tread line so the swan sits at eye level as you climb.
  • One sconce per landing is usually enough. On a long run, add a second at the top.
  • Allow for the 11.8" reach so it clears the handrail and anyone carrying laundry.

Find your glow

The bulb sets the mood.

Cygnelle takes one E12 candelabra bulb (not included), so the color of the light is yours to choose. Tap a color temperature to preview how it reads through frosted glass.

With a 2700K bulb: candlelight

Deep, amber-leaning warmth. The brass turns honey-gold and the room feels lit by candles. Lovely in a bedroom late at night.

With a 3000K bulb: warm white

Warm with a clean edge. The frosted glass glows creamy, the brass stays golden and the K-9 crystals sparkle brightly. Our pick for most rooms.

With a 4000K bulb: neutral

Crisp and bright, which can suit a busy entry, but it cools the brass and flattens the Rococo mood.

Bulb tip: choose a compact LED candelabra bulb, 40W max. A 4–5W LED gives about the brightness of a 40W incandescent.

Are bulbs included? What bulb should I buy?

Bulbs are not included. Cygnelle takes one E12 candelabra bulb, 40W max. We recommend a compact 3000K warm white LED candelabra bulb, which glows creamy through the frosted glass and keeps the brass golden. The color temperature you see comes from the bulb you choose.

Which way does the swan face? Can I get a mirrored pair?

Cygnelle is cast in one direction only: in profile, the swan faces left as you look at the wall. Seen from the front, the wings open evenly to both sides, so a pair hung the same way still looks balanced on either side of a bed, mirror or fireplace.

How is it installed?

It is a hardwired sconce. The 6.3" round backplate mounts over a standard wall junction box, and it runs on 110–120V household power. We recommend having a licensed electrician install it. It has no plug-in cord.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

Cygnelle is rated for indoor dry locations only, so we don't recommend it for bathrooms, where steam and splashes are common. It is a great fit for bedrooms, hallways, stair landings, entries, living and dining rooms.

How high should I hang it?

Most people hang wall sconces 60–66" from the floor to the center of the fixture. Beside a bed, center it about 24–30" above the top of the mattress. Remember it reaches 11.8" (30 cm) out from the wall.

How do I clean the brass and crystal?

Turn off the power and let the shade cool. Dust the brass with a soft, dry cloth and skip abrasive polishes. Wipe each K-9 crystal and the glass shade with a microfiber cloth, lightly dampened with glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth, not onto the fixture.

Four hands-on stages

From a bar of raw brass to the frame of your lamp, each stage is done by a person at a machine or a bench.

A brass rod being turned on a metal lathe with curls of brass swarf
A craftsman cutting brass sheet into shapes at the bench
A metalworker welding a brass lamp frame at the bench

Brass

Mostly copper, strengthened with zinc. That simple mix gives brass its warm golden color, its weight and its strength, and it is the metal we build our lamp bodies from.

You feel it the moment you lift it

Brass is one of the densest metals used in lighting. That weight is why a brass lamp hangs steady and feels solid in your hands.

Machined brass keeps crisp lines; cast alloys tend to look soft.
