Chaumelle Brass Swag Ribbed Glass Ceiling Light

The Chaumelle Brass Swag Ribbed Glass Ceiling Light sets a clear ribbed glass bowl inside a brass ring draped with garlands and tassel drops, finished with a leafy brass finial below. Four lights glow through the ribbed glass, so the bowl shines with fine lines of light while the brass swags frame it in warm gold.

The Story

Draped in brass, cut with light

Chaumelle borrows from the drawing room: a swagged brass ring, glass ribbed like cut crystal, and a leafy finial at its heart. Choose a chapter to see each part come alive.

Brass garlands loop around the ring like a drawn curtain, each one caught at a post and finished with a small leaf drop.

Upright glass rods ring the top and a ribbed bowl closes the bottom. With four lights on, both break the glow into fine, bright lines.

At the centre of the bowl, a leafy brass finial gathers every rib together and finishes the light from below.

Brass swags above, fine lines of light below

Over a round dining table, the semi-flush version brings the glow down to the room while the brass ring frames it in gold.

Two Versions

Close to the ceiling, or a little lower

Semi-Flush · Ø 42 cm x H 37 cm / Ø 16.5" x H 14.6"On a Ø 12.5 cm / 4.9" canopy and short brass stem, for a little more drop and presence.

Flush · Ø 42 cm x H 23 cm / Ø 16.5" x H 9.1"The ring sits close to the ceiling, for lower rooms and walkways.

Finding your fit

At 42 cm / 16.5" across, Chaumelle suits a bedroom, walk-in closet, hallway or breakfast nook. Choose the flush version for ceilings around 2.4 m / 8 ft, or the semi-flush version from about 2.7 m / 9 ft, and centre it over the room or the table.

Which version for your ceiling?

Choose your ceiling height to see the suggested version and the space left below the light.

Flush2.4 m / 8 ft ceiling

With an 8 ft ceiling, choose the flush version. It sits 23 cm / 9.1" deep, leaving about 217 cm / 85.4" below the light, above the common 2.1 m / 7 ft walkway clearance.

Care

Cleaning brass and glass

  1. 1Switch off and cool

Turn the light off and let the bulbs and glass cool before you touch them.

  2. 2Dust the glass

Wipe the glass rods and ribbed bowl with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth; a cloth lightly dampened with water lifts marks.

  3. 3Dry the brass

Use a separate soft, dry cloth on the swags, drops and finial to keep the brass bright.

  4. 4Skip harsh products

Avoid ammonia, abrasive pads and metal polish on the brass, and dry the glass straight away.

FAQ

Questions before you choose

Should I choose the flush or the semi-flush version?

Both share the same 42 cm / 16.5" brass ring and four lights. The flush version is 23 cm / 9.1" tall and suits ceilings around 2.4 m / 8 ft, leaving more headroom in bedrooms, closets and hallways. The semi-flush version is 37 cm / 14.6" tall on a Ø 12.5 cm / 4.9" canopy and suits ceilings from about 2.7 m / 9 ft, where a little more drop gives the light more presence. Where people walk underneath, aim to keep at least 2.1 m / 7 ft from the floor to the bottom of the light.

Which bulbs does it take, and are they included?

It takes four E12 / E14 candelabra bulbs, which are not included. A 3000K warm white bulb brings out the gold of the brass, and clear bulbs show the fine lines in the ribbed glass best. LED candelabra bulbs also run cooler, which is kinder to the glass when you clean it.

How is it installed?

Chaumelle is hardwired to a standard ceiling junction box, so there is no plug or cord. We recommend having a licensed electrician make the connection and following your local electrical codes. Measure the ceiling height first so you can confirm the version before installation.

Is it the right size for my room?

At 42 cm / 16.5" across, it suits bedrooms, walk-in closets, hallways, breakfast nooks and smaller dining rooms. A simple guide is to add the room length and width in feet; a total of about 15–18 suits a fixture around 16–17" across. Over a dining table, centre it over the table rather than the room.

What does the light look like when it is on?

The four lights glow through the upright glass rods and the ribbed glass bowl, so the bowl shines with fine, bright lines rather than a flat glow. The brass swags, leaf drops and finial pick up the light and frame it in warm gold.

How do I clean the glass and the brass?

Switch the light off and let it cool, then dust the glass rods and bowl with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth; a cloth lightly dampened with water lifts marks, and the glass should be dried straight away. Clean the brass with a separate soft, dry cloth, and avoid ammonia, abrasive pads and metal polish on the brass finish.

Four hands-on stages

From a bar of raw brass to the frame of your lamp, each stage is done by a person at a machine or a bench.

A brass rod being turned on a metal lathe with curls of brass swarf
A craftsman cutting brass sheet into shapes at the bench
A metalworker welding a brass lamp frame at the bench

Brass

Mostly copper, strengthened with zinc. That simple mix gives brass its warm golden color, its weight and its strength, and it is the metal we build our lamp bodies from.

Brass rewards a close look. Tap a point to see what solid metal does that coated metal cannot.

You feel it the moment you lift it

Brass is one of the densest metals used in lighting. That weight is why a brass lamp hangs steady and feels solid in your hands.

Brass does not rust. Plated iron rusts once the coating wears thin.

Detail that stays sharp

Machined brass keeps crisp lines; cast alloys tend to look soft.
