Belcastre Brass Crowned Crystal Cascade Chandelier

A column of crystal, crowned in brass

The Belcastre Brass Crowned Crystal Cascade Chandelier circles a tiered cascade of crystal with scrolled brass arms, each ending in a crowned shade hung with prisms. Clear K-9 crystal falls in layers from the central body and every shade, so the fixture lights up as a full column of sparkle.

Look closer

Carved brass you can actually read

Ornate brass only looks rich when the carving is sharp. Here is the same kind of hanging ornament on the Belcastre and on a typical alternative, photographed up close.

Belcastre

  • Flowers, leaves and fruit cast with sharp, clean edges
  • Smooth polished brass that reflects light evenly

Typical alternative

  • Soft, blurred shapes with no clear motif
  • Rough, pitted surface that looks lumpy up close

Where and how high

Hang it at the right height

Center it on the table in a dining room and leave 30" to 36" between the tabletop and the lowest crystal. In a foyer or living room, center it in the space and keep at least 7 ft clear below so no one walks into it.

01

Find the center

Over the table, or the middle of the foyer or seating area.

02

Check the ceiling box

It must be rated for the full weight of the fixture.

03

Call an electrician

A licensed electrician should hardwire it and set the drop.

04

Fit the bulbs

E12/E14 candelabra, sold separately; 3000K warm white.

Care

Keeping the crystal clear

A light dusting keeps the K-9 crystal bright between deeper cleans. Always switch off the power and let the bulbs cool first.

MonthlyLight dusting
YearlyFull prism clean

Do

  • Lay a soft towel below to catch any drips
  • Wipe each prism with a lint-free cloth or cotton gloves
  • Lightly dampen the cloth, never the fixture
  • Dry every prism fully before switching on
  • Dust the brass with a dry, soft cloth

Avoid

  • Spraying cleaner directly onto the fixture
  • Water near sockets or wiring
  • Abrasive pads or ammonia cleaners
  • Cleaning while bulbs are still hot
  • Pulling on prisms or crystal strands

Questions

Before you order

Which size should I choose?

The 33.5" size suits rooms of about 14 x 20 ft and round tables up to 66". Choose the 41.3" size for larger rooms, foyers and tables up to 82".

How high should it hang over a table?

Leave 30" to 36" between the tabletop and the lowest crystal. In walkways, keep at least 7 ft clear below.

What bulbs does it use?

E12/E14 candelabra bulbs: 14 for the smaller size and 20 for the larger. Bulbs are not included; 3000K warm white suits it best.

Is the crystal real glass?

Yes. The prisms are clear K-9 crystal, an optical glass that stays clear and does not yellow like acrylic.

What comes with it?

A 50 cm / 19.7" chain and a 14.5 cm / 5.7" canopy are included with the fixture.

Do I need an electrician?

Yes. It is a hardwired ceiling fixture and should be installed by a licensed electrician.

Four hands-on stages

From a bar of raw brass to the frame of your lamp, each stage is done by a person at a machine or a bench.

A brass rod being turned on a metal lathe with curls of brass swarf
A craftsman cutting brass sheet into shapes at the bench
A metalworker welding a brass lamp frame at the bench

Brass

Mostly copper, strengthened with zinc. That simple mix gives brass its warm golden color, its weight and its strength, and it is the metal we build our lamp bodies from.

Look closer at the metal

Brass rewards a close look. Tap a point to see what solid metal does that coated metal cannot.

You feel it the moment you lift it

Brass is one of the densest metals used in lighting. That weight is why a brass lamp hangs steady and feels solid in your hands.

Solid brass vs. brass-colored

Both can look golden on day one. Drag to see what sits under the surface.

vs
Gold all the way through

Scratch solid brass and you find more brass. Scratch plating and grey metal shows.

No rust underneath

Brass does not rust. Plated iron rusts once the coating wears thin.

Detail that stays sharp

Machined brass keeps crisp lines; cast alloys tend to look soft.
