Amber glass palm leaf chandelier

55.9″across

Palmonde, a sunlit palm in amber glass

Tier upon tier of textured, hand-blown amber glass leaves fan out from a slim metal frame, each curved like a palm frond, rising to a crown of upright leaves. Lit, the granular glass glows deep honey gold and light filters through every leaf.

Leaf by leaf, tier by tier

Each frond is hand-blown with a granular, sugared texture and pinned to the frame, so the tiers layer like a palm crown. A textured glass finial closes the bottom.

The lowest ceiling we suggest over a walkway: shorten the chain so the glass finial stays at 7 ft. Over a dining table, it can hang lower.

A classic two-story foyer: with the full chain, the finial sits about 8.5 ft above the floor and the widest tier fills the upper half of the space.

In a very tall stairwell or great room, the full chain leaves the finial about 12.5 ft up. Want it lower? Contact us about a longer chain.

Over a walkway, keep the bottom at least 7 ft (84 in) off the floor. At 51.2 in tall, that needs a ceiling of about 11.5 ft or higher. Drop is measured from the canopy.

Palmonde chandelier switched on with 3000K warm white bulbs, amber glass glowing honey gold Palmonde chandelier with the lights off, pale amber glass leaves in daylight

Light & bulb

Pale gold by day, honey fire by night

In daylight the leaves read as soft, pale amber. Lit, the granular glass turns deep honey gold. The photo shows the glow we recommend: 3000K warm white bulbs.

Lit with warm white bulbs, every tier glows from within and the edges of the leaves sparkle.

Off, the glass keeps a light champagne-amber tone that suits cream and white rooms.

Where it hangs

Made for big, tall rooms

Palmonde is scaled for open spaces of about 700 sq ft and up: two-story foyers, great rooms, stairwells and hotel-style lobbies. Under a tall ceiling it also anchors a large round dining table.

FAQ

Before you choose Palmonde

Ø 55.9 × H 51.2 in39.4 in chainE12 / E14 × 36, 25W maxGold or nickelHardwired
Are bulbs included? What bulb should I buy?

Bulbs are not included. Palmonde takes 36 E12 / E14 candelabra bulbs, up to 25W each. We recommend LED candle bulbs in 3000K warm white, which bring out the honey gold of the amber glass. The final light color depends on the bulbs you choose.

How big a room and how high a ceiling does it need?

At 55.9 in (142 cm) across and 51.2 in (130 cm) tall, Palmonde suits open spaces of about 700 sq ft and up with high or double-height ceilings. Over a walkway, keep the bottom at least 7 ft off the floor, which needs a ceiling of about 11.5 ft or higher.

Is the glass hand-blown?

Yes. The palm leaves are hand-blown textured amber glass with a granular finish, finished with a textured glass finial at the base. Because they are made by hand, color and texture vary slightly from leaf to leaf.

Can I adjust the chain length?

Yes. The 39.4 in (100 cm) chain is adjustable, for a total drop of up to 90.6 in (230 cm) from the canopy. If you need it longer for a very tall ceiling, contact us before ordering.

What is the difference between gold and nickel?

Only the metal finish changes: the frame, chain and round canopy come in gold or nickel. The amber glass, size and bulbs are the same. Gold deepens the warm Hollywood Regency look; nickel feels crisper with white walls and gray stone.

How is it installed and cleaned?

Palmonde is hardwired to a ceiling junction box under the round canopy. Because of its size, we recommend a licensed electrician and a ceiling box rated for heavy fixtures. To clean, switch it off, let the glass cool and dust each leaf with a soft, dry cloth.

Made to order

Pick a shape and a color, and we will build it into the chandelier you need.

Start with one of our four glass shapes, choose from the colors we make it in, then send us your choice. We blow the shades to order and fit them to your fixture.

Your selection

Each shade is blown, shaped and colored by hand, then matched against our color standard before it leaves the workshop. Shades on screen are a guide; the glass itself will vary slightly.

Found your shape and color? Tell us and we will build it.

Email the shape and color you have chosen, along with the fixture and the number of shades you need. We will get back to you to confirm the details.

Hand-blown art glass

Every shade on this chandelier began as glass at 2,000°F.

Before it ever held light, the glass on your chandelier was melted, blown and shaped by hand in a working glass studio. Here is how it is made, and why it glows the way it does.

Hand-blown art glass pieces and glass rods laid out on a studio table
2,000°F

Furnace heat needed before the glass is soft enough to shape.

One at a time

Each piece is gathered, blown and finished by a maker’s hands.

Color in the glass

Color is fused in while molten, never painted onto the surface.

The process

From furnace to fixture, in four stages.

Why hand-blown, and not pressed.

Depth, not a flat wash

Pressed glass is stamped in a mold: uniform, thin and flat once the light is behind it. Hand-blown glass varies slightly in thickness, and that variation gives the glow its depth.

Color through the whole wall

Color goes into the melt rather than onto the surface, so it runs the full thickness of the glass. It cannot chip, fade or wear off at the rim.

Worth the extra time

It costs more and takes longer to make. It also looks like nothing else in the room.

Signs of the hand, not flaws.

  • Tiny bubblesSmall seeds of air are trapped as the glass is gathered and turned.
  • Slight shifts in shadeColor can deepen where the glass is thicker and soften where it thins.
  • Gentle ripplesFaint waves in the surface show where the glass was shaped by hand.

Because each piece is made by hand, the glass on your chandelier will differ slightly from the photos. No two are exactly alike.
