The Akari 25N Table Lamp by Isamu Noguchi is a handcrafted masterpiece using traditional washi paper for the lampshade, bamboo/steel wire for the structure, and painted steel wire legs to complete a beautiful Japanese aesthetic. The unique form of the Akari 25N light transforms the harshness of electricity through this magical paper design into a sunlit experience like no other.
First made in 1951, the Akari 25N light comes from the Akari Light Sculptures series, which comprises various other designs that feature the same traditional washi paper and other materials with a Japanese influence. The name Akari stems from the Japanese word for "light," balancing the aesthetic of illumination and physical lightness for the most extraordinary display. Noguchi wanted to portray the sun in a warm and gentle way, dispersing it throughout the room with a stunning expression.
